Where exactly is located Parkhotel Matrei – and what’s the best way to get there?

Parkhotel Matrei is situated on the southern outskirts of Matrei am Brenner, in the heart of the Wipptal valley, making it the perfect stopover on the way to Italy, whether you’re heading for Lake Garda, Tuscany, or the Adriatic Sea.

  • Car and motorbike: via the A13 Brenner motorway (exit 19 Matrei/Steinach) or the B182 road. The motorway exit is just 500 metres from the hotel.
  • Train: Matrei am Brenner station (ÖBB Innsbruck–Brenner line) is within easy walking distance.
  • Bus: via the TVB Wipptal valley regional buses – hotel guests can even use them for free with their guest card

How far is the hotel from Innsbruck and the Brenner Pass?

Parkhotel Matrei is situated in the heart of the Wipptal valley.

  • Innsbruck: approx. 20km north – reachable by car in around 20 minutes or directly by train from Matrei station
  • Brenner Pass (border with Italy): approx. 18km south

What are the check-in and check-out times at Parkhotel Matrei?

Standard check-in is available daily from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m., and check-out on the day of departure is from 7 a.m. to 10.30 a.m.

Are there parking spaces and electric charging points at the hotel?

Yes. Free parking spaces are available right next to Parkhotel Matrei. There are also three modern AC charging points (up to 22kW) for electric vehicles – ideal for fully charging your car overnight so you can continue your journey the next day with peace of mind.

Is there an eco-bonus for eco-friendly travel?

Yes! Guests arriving by train, bike, or on foot receive a 10% eco-discount on their booking. Parkhotel Matrei is a proud holder of the Austrian Ecolabel and the EU Ecolabel – for us, sustainability isn’t just a buzzword, but a way of life.

Can hotel guests use public transport for free?

Yes. As a guest at Parkhotel Matrei, you’ll receive the official TVB Wipptal valley guest card free of charge by e-mail. This allows you to travel free of charge on regional buses and on the ÖBB Brenner railway line between Innsbruck Central Station, Matrei am Brenner, and the Brenner Pass throughout your stay – including your arrival and departure.

Is the hotel suitable for cyclists?

  • MEDIUM Room: comfortable for 1 to 2 people (from 16m²)
  • LARGE Room: spacious for 1 to 4 people (from 20m²) – ideal for families

All rooms are equipped with a flat-screen TV, seating area, desk, safe, bath/shower, WC, make-up mirror, and free Wi-Fi. Most rooms have their own balcony or access to a terrace.

Is breakfast included in the room rate?

Yes. At Parkhotel Matrei, breakfast is included in the room rate. You’ll start every day feeling refreshed – with a generous breakfast buffet served daily from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. For early risers and business travellers, an earlier breakfast before 7 a.m. is also available upon prior request.

Are dogs and pets welcome at the hotel?

Yes, at Parkhotel Matrei, up to 2 pets per room are very welcome. A cleaning surcharge of €14.50 per pet per night applies.

Is there a wellness or relaxation area?

Yes. After a long day’s hiking or a drive, relaxation is particularly welcome. Our relaxation area offers:

Our two traditional dining rooms cater to your culinary needs: the à la carte restaurant Enneberg and the cosy Hafner Stube. Half board (from 3 nights’ stay) is served in the main restaurant. You can round off the evening in the stylish café|bar ma3 – whether with a Tyrolean beer, a glass of wine, or a digestif.

What kind of cuisine is served in the restaurant?

Our cuisine combines the best of Tyrol and the world. In keeping with our location near Brenner – a European hub – we combine traditional Tyrolean fare with Mediterranean influences and international classics. In summer, we also treat you to our large covered sun terrace with a BBQ station.

What are the restaurant’s opening hours?

  • Breakfast: 7 – 10 a.m.
  • Lunch: 11.30 a.m. – 2 p.m.
  • Dinner: 6 – 9 p.m.

No regular closing day. Any short-notice changes, e.g. due to renovation work, will be communicated in good time.

Do you cater for allergies and special dietary requirements?

Yes. Our kitchen team is flexible in accommodating food intolerances, allergies, and vegetarian requests. There is a separate menu for guests with coeliac disease (gluten intolerance). Please let us know about your dietary requirements when booking or at check-in – this will allow us to prepare accordingly.

What activities does the Wipptal valley offer in summer and winter?

The Wipptal valley offers unspoilt nature away from mass tourism – nestled between the Stubai and Zillertal Alps.

  • Summer: hiking (e.g. the Wipp Traverse), mountaineering, climbing, and mountain biking. The Bergeralm mountain railways in Steinach am Brenner are a perfect starting point.
  • Winter: skiing and snowboarding in the Bergeralm ski area. Ski touring in the unspoilt Valsertal valley or Schmirntal valley, tobogganing, and winter hiking.

Is a day trip to Innsbruck from Matrei possible?

Very easily, in fact. Innsbruck is only about 20km to the north – reachable by car or train in around 20 minutes. Ideal for a stroll through the city, shopping in the old town, or a visit to the Golden Roof. With the free guest card from the Wipptal Tourist Board, you can even travel for free.
