Skiing in Wipptal – balm for the soul

There are many songs and stories about skiing being more than just a sport. Anyone who has arrived in the valley after a long downhill run with enjoyable turns knows that skiing is pure happiness. The wind in your face, the familiar crunch of the snow under your skis, and your cheeks red from the cool air: that’s what freedom feels like. It’s even better when you can enjoy it away from crowded tourist areas. During a skiing holiday at our Parkhotel Matrei, relaxed skiing enjoyment awaits you in the surrounding skiing areas of Tyrol and South Tyrol, as well as in the Zillertal and Stubai Alps. Varied and perfectly groomed slopes, guaranteed snow, and culinary delights perfectly round off the charms of the Wipptal ski paradise.

Every day, you can choose from the full range of possibilities to customise your skiing holiday according to your mood. Whether it’s a trip to the Stubai Glacier in Austria’s largest glacier skiing area or a day out to a small South Tyrolean skiing area for nature lovers, whether skiing and shopping at Mt Cavallo/Rosskopf in Sterzing or an outing to an exciting fun park – the possibilities are endless. From our hotel, the various valley stations are easy to reach by car or the free ski shuttle. Families and pleasure skiers alike will appreciate the advantages of these insider-tip resorts. Winter and snowshoe hiking

If you want to explore the wintry, snow-covered landscape at your own pace and away from large crowds, we highly recommend a winter hike or snowshoe hike. As you walk, concentrate on your breath, your heartbeat, and the crunching of the snow beneath your feet. Enjoy the silence and the enchanting sight of untouched nature. Breathe in the crystal-clear winter air as you traverse more than 100 kilometres of prepared and unprepared winter hiking trails and leave all the everyday stress behind. Florian Obojes, your host at the Parkhotel Matrei, will be happy to advise you personally and tell you about the most beautiful trails.

Tobogganing is an integral part of the winter experience in Tyrol, along with the glistening snow and the crackling fireplace. With a bit of luck, your hike – or lift ride – up the mountain will take you to a cosy hut where you can warm up by the wood-burning stove and fuel up for the descent with a hearty snack. Take it easy and enjoy the ride as momentum leads to speed. Those who reach the bottom first will find themselves back at the top in no time, ready for round two! In North Tyrol’s Wipptal alone, there are nine toboggan runs with a total of 31 kilometres of fun, many of which are also illuminated at night. It’s an activity that promises family fun and enjoyment for both the young and the young at heart.
