Maria Waldrast
The highest pilgrimage town in Europe lies at 1,642 metres above sea level, directly above Matrei in Tyrol. Here you will find a picturesque pilgrim’s church and a monastery tavern where you can enjoy well-earned refreshment after your hiking tour. During winter you will also find a night lit natural tobogganing track as well as a high altitude cross country ski trail.
Innsbruck – Bergisel (40km return)
The capital of the Tyrolean province in Austria offers numerous possibilities for shopping, as well as many sights and attractions. The Golden Roof in the old town is just as interesting as the Hofburg Imperial Palace, the Hofkirche Court Church and the Nordkette (roughly translated as the Northern Chain) in the cultural landscape of Innsbruck. The Kramsach open air museum makes it possible to see original farm houses from all the Tyrolean regions. These farm houses were taken apart and then put back together in Kramsach with a loving eye for detail. The farm house culture, which strongly characterises the popular image of Tyrol, has been documented here in a most impressive way.
